The Challenge

The U.S. Navy launched a comprehensive modernization of the Submarine Officer Basic Course to better prepare future officers for the operational and leadership demands of the submarine force. Nearly every lesson was revised or completely redesigned, with more than 350 hours of new instruction and hands-on laboratory training added to the program. At the same time, the existing training pipeline had to keep moving. That meant coordinating approximately 20 instructors and 20 operational subject matter experts while developing and integrating the new curriculum without disrupting officer training.

What I Led

• Co-led program planning and execution with the Curriculum Supervisor for the complete modernization of the Submarine Officer Basic Course.

• Managed schedules, work assignments, and coordination across approximately 20 instructors and 20 operational subject matter experts.

• Directed curriculum integration, review cycles, and implementation planning to transition redesigned lessons and laboratories into the active training pipeline.

Outcome

The modernized Submarine Officer Basic Course was formally adopted by the U.S. Naval Submarine School, introducing more than 350 hours of new instruction and hands-on laboratory training. The redesigned program expanded hands-on preparation while reducing downstream on-the-job training requirements by more than 50 hours per graduate.
